Meals that our campers rave about!

Tawingo provides three delicious and nutritious meals and a snack every day. Food is expertly and lovingly prepared on site by skilled Tawingo staff.

  • We are a nut-safe facility

    Nuts, nut products, and products that may contain nuts are NOT permitted at Tawingo. We are vigilant about creating a safe-food environment and watch our suppliers, ingredients, and food handling very carefully.

  • Allergies

    We must be informed of all dietary concerns, restrictions, and allergies in writing prior to arrival, so that our kitchen staff can plan to safely accommodate campers who have special food needs.

  • Meal Alternatives

    We accommodate vegetarian, vegan, lactose-free, gluten-free, and other specialized dietary needs.

Sample Menus

Breakfast

8:00am

Breakfast begins with a first course of cold cereal, hot oatmeal, coffee, tea, milk, and juice or fruit.

The main course may include:

  • Cheese Omelette

  • Pancakes & Syrup

  • Scrambled Eggs & Hashbrowns

  • Breakfast Burritos

  • French Toast & Sausages

Lunch

12:30pm

Lunch often begins with a first course of hot soup, or tossed salad, or veggies & dip.

The main course can include:

  • Macaroni and Cheese

  • Soft/hard Shell Tacos

  • Pasta and sauce

  • Chicken Caesar Wraps

  • Grilled Cheese & Tomato Soup

  • Pulled Pork on Brioche Buns

Lunch is also always followed by dessert!

  • Cookies

  • Brownies/Squares

  • Worms & Dirt

  • Cake or cupcakes

  • Ice cream

Dinner

5:30pm

Dinner is a substantial meal that may include:

  • Butter Chicken, Basmati Rice, & Garlic Naan

  • Beef Stir-fry, Lo-mein Noodles, & Egg Rolls

  • Roast Chicken, Mashed Potatoes, & Vegetables

  • Beef Tacos

  • Chili & Baked Potatoes

  • Perch, Coleslaw, & Rice Pilaf

  • Shepherd’s Pie

That’s not all! Dinner is always followed by dessert!

Meet our Food Service Director & Executive Chef

Gloria Lovo - Food Service Director

Gloria started at Camp Tawingo as the Head Baker in 2010. Since then, she has taken on other roles such as Special Diets cook, Trip Food Coordinator, and most recently, Food Service Director. Gloria studied Early Childhood Education and Health Sciences at college, but ultimately, fell in love with baking! Gloria is dedicated to building a top-notch kitchen team at Tawingo that will ensure the campers and staff love coming to the dining hall for meals! Gloria and her family call Camp Tawingo and Huntsville home, and she is actively involved in the community.

Gloria is the proud mother of 2 future campers.

Ian Hunwicks - Executive Chef

Ian has been the Executive Chef at Camp Tawingo since 2010. He attended Camp Tawingo as camper in the summer, and enjoyed Family Weekends during the winter months with his family.

Ian graduated from the Culinary program at Niagara College in 2009 and became certified as a Red Seal Chef in 2016. Ian loves good food and has mastered the art of feeding up to 600 people, three delicious and nutritious meals each day!

During the off-season, Ian joins our Property and Maintenance team here at Tawingo. Ian is not only a cherished member of the Tawingo community but the local Huntsville community as well. He and Gloria have two children and the whole family is actively involved in the community. Ian has been a proud member of The Huntsville Lake of Bays Fire Department since 2019.
