Is your Camper nervous? Are you? We’ve got you! You’ve got this!

Nervous Camper?

Feeling nervous about coming to a new place and being away from home (and family) for the first time is normal! Everyone feels a little nervous on the first day of Camp - including campers who have been coming for years, and even many Camp Staff members! Please let your camper know that if they are feeling nervous at Camp, we are here and fully prepared to help! Decades of experience have shown us that, with the support and care of staff, the vast majority of campers quickly make a full and positive transition to Camp. For most, the adjustment period is a few minutes, for some a few hours, for a very few - a few days. Our entire leadership philosophy and Camp program are geared towards helping campers adjust, comfortably and happily, no matter the length of time it takes. We’ve got you! You’ve got this!

Nervous Parent?
In coming to Camp, your child is about to experience lots of changes: new people, new places, new activities, new meals, etc. Change can be stressful…but not all stress is negative.  Positive stress is what leads to growth, achievement, and resilience.  We will be by your child’s side to lovingly support them as they navigate all of the changes that come with a camp experience.  They may experience moments of discomfort - meals they don’t prefer, possible challenges with a cabinmate, activities that challenge their skills, no ipad or phone; but they are just that - moments.  On the other side of discomfort is resilience; the capacity to tolerate the widest range of emotions. In our mission to “build great kids”, good health is at the top of the list, and this includes mental health. Resilience is a sign of good mental health - a child who can demonstrate the capacity to successfully adapt to life’s “moments”.  Camp is the perfect environment (indeed, experts argue an essential ingredient), for helping children to build and maintain good mental health - even when (especially when!) they are nervous about coming!
