MICHAEL PEARSE has spent 32 years at Camp Tawingo, where he has been a camper, a counsellor, Section Director, Waterfront Director, Co-ordinator of Leadership Development, Wilderness Canoe Trip Leader, and most recently Director and Owner. He is a past chair of the Ontario Camping Association Counsellors Conference and has presented leadership workshops and motivational speeches across Canada, in the United States, Japan, and Venezuela. Mike was the Director of Academics at Tawingo College for two years and is now the school's Managing Director. Mike graduated with the Gold Medal in Psychology from the University of Western Ontario, and received the Chancellor's Award for the highest graduating average in the Social Sciences Faculty. He attained his Bachelor of Education from Althouse Teachers' College, where he received the J.W. Bowden Award for Academic and Teaching Excellence. Mike taught at Oakridge Secondary School in London for 10 years, where he coached Soccer, Hockey, and advised the Student Council, and Drama Club. While there, he received numerous teaching awards, including the Graduating Students' Teaching Award and the city-wide Bishop Townsend Award for Teaching Excellence. Mike co-directed The Original Kids Summer Theatre Day Camp in London with his wife Tia, and together they now own and operate Camp Tawingo. Mike and Tia live year-round at Camp with their sons Christopher, Tyler, and Carson.
JOHN JORGENSON has an Honours B.Sc. Degree in Biology from University of Waterloo. He has been a member of the Camp Tawingo full-time staff for 30 years. He directs and coordinates the Tawingo Outdoor Centre throughout the year and he is the Director of Program for the summer camp. He has served as President of the Ontario Camping Association, President of the Canadian Camping Association, Chair of the Editorial Board of the American Camping Association's "Camping Magazine", and a Board Member of the Society of Camp Directors. He has conducted workshops on Camping and Outdoor Education across Canada, the United States, Japan, Malaysia, Australia, Greece, Mexico, Bulgaria, and Russia. He has contributed to and co-authored various Camp Tawingo Publications. John was the General Session Chair of the Third International Camping Congress in Toronto in 1994, the Kindred Conference Chair for the Association of Independent Camps of the American Camping Association in the same year, and continues to serve on the Executive of the International Camping Fellowship.
BARRIE LAUGHTON has been associated with Camp Tawingo since 1961 in a variety of positions - as a Counsellor, Section Director, Program Co-ordinator, Co-ordinator of Leadership Development, and, most recently, Principal of Tawingo College, and Director of Site and Facility during the summer months. Barrie was educated at Carleton University (Honours B.A.), Queen's University (B.Ed.), and the University of Ottawa (M.Ed.). He coordinated High School Volleyball for the Ottawa Board of Education and his teams won several City, Provincial, and National Championships. At Lisgar Collegiate in Ottawa, he was Co-ordinator and Head of the Gifted Program along with being involved in Special Education Programs in conjunction with the Guidance Department. In his spare time, he has led numerous travel tours around the world.
JACK PEARSE has spent his entire career in youth work, education, and camping. He has served as President of the Ontario Camping Association, the Canadian Camping Association, and the American Camping Association of Independent Camps. In addition, he was a Steering Committee member for the Third International Camping Congress. Jack was instrumental in the formation of The International Camping Fellowship and served as the Chair for many years. He is still an Honourary Member of the Ontario, Canadian, and American Camping Associations. A founding faculty member of the University of Waterloo Recreation Department, Jack has authored many camp-related books and recorded 2 cassette tapes and 1 CD of Camp songs. He has conducted leadership workshops on Camping, Outdoor Education, and Recreation in Canada, the United States, Japan, Russia, Venezuela, Australia, Colombia, and Greece. His wife, Helen, and their children: Pat, Judy, John, and Mike, have contributed significantly to the growth and development of Camp.
